Build Your Own 5W Stereo Amplifier at Home with CD6283 IC – Complete Tutorial

Step-by-step guide to build a 5W stereo amplifier using IC CD6283. Perfect project for beginners who love crisp, powerful sound!

Introduction

On popular demand and simple and straightforward circuit design, audio amplifier enthusiasts like to assemble and enjoy the stereo effect of the audio quality. IC CD6283 is configured into a stereo system, giving adequate sound output and quality reproduction. The stereo audio amplifier circuit designed using the low-cost versatile IC CD6283  is discussed here for assembly. As such, do not miss this circuit to assemble at home and enjoy the appreciation of other music lovers.

Know your circuit

The Stereo Audio Amplifier circuit schematic is given here. Please go through the circuit design and become familiarise with the connections of the vital components.

CD 6283 IC is a SIL single-in-line compact IC that gives clean 5W stereo audio output through the two stereo speakers connected to its output terminals, as shown in the circuit diagram. Two 8-ohm speakers are used for stereo reproduction. Very few external components, such as resistors and capacitors, are required to complete the circuit schematic assembly.

Know your design

The circuit design is straightforward and easy to understand and assemble, even for novices. The stereo audio IC used here is CD6283. It has an inbuilt thermal shutdown protection and is packaged in a SIP-single Inline Package. However, a suitable heatsink has to be provided to the IC when it is connected to a 12V power supply. Also, it is easily available in the local electronics market. When the circuit is energised with 9V DC operation, its stereo audio output is around 3 Watts. If it is powered with a 12V DC power supply, its audio output will be enhanced to 5 Watts.

Working Explanation

As the IC CD6283 is configured in the stereo mode, a 12V DC power supply is optimal to give a decent output of about 5W audio power.
Pin 12 is connected to the positive power supply, whereas pin 6 is grounded for the negative power supply.

Audio input signal as channels 1 and 2 are fed to IC pin nos.. 5 and 7, respectively. The stereo output is available at pin nos.. 2 and 10.  Two 8-ohm speakers are used to deliver the sound output.

Know your assembly

The circuit can be easily assembled on any general-purpose PCB; however, one can use the readymade PCB that is available in the market. Readymade PCB assembly gives you a very compact and neat assembly. It should be housed in a metallic enclosure to avoid hum or noise picking from outside sources, which may be a disturbance in audio quality.

In Nutshell
