6 Volt DC power supply for universal use
A universal utility DC power supply circuit that delivers a fairly regulated voltage of 6 Volts is an absolutely essential source of power supply for an electronics enthusiast. It is highly usable in assembling, testing, and repairing electronics gadgets that run on a 6V power supply. If the unit is an adjustable type it can be set at a required nominal output voltage for experiments in the electronics lab. Such a power supply circuit is described here.
Know your circuit
The power supply circuit is very simple and straightforward in delivering the required voltage besides stability in operation and regulation. It is free from fluctuations as it is controlled by transistor regulators coupled with LED as a unique component for voltage regulation and stabilization.
Please go through the circuit design so that one can familiarise with the schematic and the components used.

Know the design
High voltage AC is reduced to 6v AC through a power transformer and is rectified through four 1N4001 diodes and smoothed by a 1000MFD electrolytic capacitor. Smoothed DC voltage is fed to the Q1 collector and regulated output is taken out from the emitter. Q1 is regulated using Q2 biasing through Red LED and VR variable resistors. The LED acts as DC on the indicator as well as controls the current flow of Q2 to function as a voltage regulator. By varying VR 2 to 6 V DC output can be obtained through the emitter of Q1.
Know your assembly
The power supply circuit can be assembled easily on any vero board for ease and simplicity of operation. As the circuit is very simple any beginner in electronics can assemble it without any difficulty.
