The most exciting project among students and hobbyists is the 'Touch Demon circuit'. This is just a face mask-shaped item equipped with the circuit, which when touched while the demon shape is sleeping gets angry and shows its anger by changing its face and eyes to RED color. It is a fascinating action that most people especially children enjoy this popular gadget during exhibitions and tourist fairs. 

You can easily build this project with a very few count of components easily available from the local market. It is battery-powered and hence can be used in any place.   

Know your circuit

The circuit schematic of this touch demon is given below. By going through the circuit design it is a simple circuit using very few components. 

Parts list:
U1 – IC CD4011
R1 – 5M ohms – Resistor
R2 – 3.3K ohms – Resistor
C1 – 0.33 MFD/16V capacitor
LED1, LED2 – Light Emitting Diodes

A touch plate is made up of a round shape like a 10 rupee coin-size, connected to touch points A & B.   

Know your design

This interesting circuit is built around CMOS IC 4011. The IC is 14-pin dual in type. It consumes very little current and is a versatile one in such gadgets. It is also a low-cost IC and is a very famous project component employed in most of the school/college exhibition gadgets. As such it is a very favorite circuit among students, hobbyists and novices.


In common usage, this circuit is used to scare visitors to the exhibition who happen to touch the face or head of a demon-shaped doll. The red LED placed on the forehead of a fierce-full demon blinks vigorously as if it gets angry when touched its forehead. Especially the children and small kids get fascinated to see this scene.

Circuit description
Easy to build using single IC 4011
When the sensors A & B are jointly touched the LEDs begin to blink
It is used it as a blinker circuit.  
Angry men or angry dogs or sleeping demons can be taken as examples used as dolls. 
Two red LEDs will be fixed as the eyes of a demon/dog. The sensor is placed on its head. When the head is touched the demon begins to blink. So also man/dog etc.
From the circuit design you can ascertain that very few components are only required to build this circuit. 

Know your assembling

The circuit schematic may be easily assembled on any general-purpose Vero board. No special PCB is necessary. Use a 14-pin DIL socket to use the IC. All precautions are to be taken when you handle the CMOS ICs. Otherwise, the IC gets damaged easily while handling. A 6V battery power pack can be used to energize the circuit.
